After school, we went to the mall nearby. All of the students had been asking for a social activity with the coaches, outside of school. But in the pursuit of fairness, we can only do things with all coaches and with all students invited. So, kids knew we were going and could go if they want, but it was optional. I was missing 3 kids from class because of rain, and only 5 came to the mall. Still, it was a nice time. I finally got to do air conditioned shopping.
All of the girls wear beautiful lipstick, and I wanted some too! So, I let them help me pick out a shade. How does it look?
Matheus was a good sport, going all around with us!
We ate at the food court together and I ordered food in Portuguese. The students were so surprised/amazed by it.
I had a "Mexican Popsicle". It was coconut with nutella inside, amazing!
I also bought some truffles to bring home :)
After the mall, I walked to the grocery store with a couple other coaches. There is never enough change in the store...For example, I wanted to buy R$25.70 with a hundred bill, but I couldn't because no where in the store could they break it. This a a little grocery store like Fareway, actually owned by Wal-Mart, not just a little fruit stand. So strange to me. I bought a 6 pack of 1.5 liter bottles of water, which weighed about 20 lbs. I had a good work out to carry them back to the hotel-about half a mile or so. My arms were shaking when I put them down.
After all that, Elena and I went across the street to get tapioca. The waiter was really funny. The same kid who took our leftovers a few weeks ago came up to the table asking for money (I think, I don't really speak Portuguese.) I wasn't going to finish my tapioca, so I gave it to him. That's how I know he was hungry, he took a half-eaten tapioca without hesitation.
I also had my evaluation with Elena and I'm doing a good job here, hooray.
You are doing a great job because you care so much
